Tree surgeons should have recognised Arboriculture qualifications and should be able to provide proof of these if asked to before any work is carried out.

Proof of liability insurance should also be asked for if you are in any doubt and any tree surgeon should be happy to supply this.

Operatives should not normally use spikes to climb a tree which is not being felled as this harms the tree and many cheaper firms will use them as it is a quick way of climbing the tree. Only use spikes on trees to be felled, and occasionally on extra large trees or where climber safety is an issue.
